Eat Our Peaches
This poster in my series features Alabama’s tastiest and most prolific fruit. Most people associate the peach with Georgia, but it’s also Alabama’s leading commercial fruit with more than two-thirds of the cultivation confined to Chilton County, which is also home to Peach Park in Clanton, AL. Interstate 65 South is the gateway to Alabama’s Gulf Coast and cuts directly through Clanton, making exit 205 a popular stop on the way to the beach. It’s a great place to enjoy peach ice cream, pies, jams, and everything in between.
Process
I drew the peach in Procreate, then vectorized it in Adobe Illustrator. I used a typeface that has the appearance of hand brushed lettering to evoke the feeling of a vintage, hand painted sign like something you might’ve seen at a grocery store in the years before digital printing became ubiquitous. The seal at the bottom of the poster was also built in Illustrator. The background texture evokes the feeling of the kind of woven basket you’re likely to find peaches and other fruits in at your local farmer’s market.
