MORE ABOUT JOSH
It all started with drawing. I was always fascinated by cartoons and comic book characters and started drawing my own versions of superheroes as early as 3rd grade. But with no art classes available in any of the public schools I attended, I eventually put down my pencils and picked up other interests in writing, and playing guitar in bands. My desire to work in a creative field eventually led me to want to write for TV and Film, which brought me to a degree in Telecommunications and Film at the University of Alabama.
After college I was offered a position with Hibbett Sports where I worked four years creating corporate product knowledge and employee training videos. And while I was grateful to be working in my field, I desperately wanted to tell meaningful stories made for an external audience. I got a chance with Alabama Public Television’s documentary production unit. After working on a few seasons of Journey Proud and other APT shows, I was offered the opportunity to lead a small team of video producers for a new venture called This is Alabama for Alabama Media Group, telling positive stories about a state that often gets a lot of bad press.
But then came the COVID-19 pandemic. While working from home during this time I started drawing again. It brought me a lot of joy and I had a hard time remembering why I ever stopped. With encouragement from my wife, Emily, I decided to look into going back to school to pursue an MFA in Visual Communication (Illustration, Graphic Design) and was accepted into a low residency program with Marywood University.
I’m now working toward an MFA and as a freelance Video Producer, Illustrator, and Graphic Designer.
Let me know if you want to work together on something.
